Stock monitors

Using The Monitor

*The body of the Program Window is the Stock Monitor. This function allows the user to continuously monitor a group of 20 securities per quote page as they update. There is a maximum of 5 quote pages for a total of 100 tickers. You can get Up To 200 Tickers if you already have 5 monitor pages by enabling the feature.

Note: All quotes will be delayed 15-20 minutes unless you are paying real-time exchange and access fees. Also note, delayed prices are designated in BLACK font. Real-time prices are designated in BLUE.

Adding / Changing Symbols

*When you first access Real Time Markets, the first Stock Monitor page will have some preset symbols already installed. Symbols can be added or changed by:

*Left Mouse click on the desired cell, you will see a pop-up symbol dialog box appear. Enter desired symbol and press enter.

Setting Price and News Alerts


*Real Time Markets allows the user to set audible and text Alerts depending on plan.

*Left click on the Symbol and click Alerts

*Enter value for High, Low, Volume and News Alerts

*Click OK

*Double click on "!" to bring up News recall.

*Or up on the Settings Menu from the header click

*Edit Alerts

*A Dialog box will appear allowing you to Edit all symbols alert settings at once

*When Finished, click OK

Sorting columns

*You can Sort on any of the Columns in your Monitor Grid in either Ascending or Descending order.

*Right mouse click the gray column header of the column you wish to sort.

*Select either Sort by Ascending or Sort by Descending order.

*Example: If you would like to sort all tickers in your monitor page by volume.

*Where you would see symbols with the highest volume at the top of the page and symbols with lower volume at the bottom. Go to the volume column, perform above procedure and select descending.

Please Note: this will sort only the page which is focused (or in view).

Drag and Drop- Moving a Column in your Monitor

*You can move a column either left or right as follows:

*Go to the row you wish to move, left mouse click on the

*Grey column header. You will now see an up / down arrow

*Holding down your left mouse key, drag the row to the desired location

After hours stock data


*You can view after hours trading with the following data fills:

*You can add these columns to the display, just Right mouse click on the gray column header inyour display and select Add Column. Then right mouse click on the blank column header and select the appropriate data fill.

Changing the Data

*The fields in the Stock Monitor can be customized with up to 50 different data fills.

*Right Mouse Click on the Header will bring a pop-up window with the following 50 data fills. Point and left click to the desired field.

Changing Monitor Pages:
Depending on your plan level you will have either 1 or 5 monitor pages available.

To change between Monitor Pages, simply click on the Page Number (1,2,3,4,5) located at the top left-hand corner of the Monitor Page and the desired page will be in focus.

Please note: Each Monitor Page can have different customized data fill combinations.

To Add A Note attachment to a Symbol
Add a Notes data fill by right mouse clicking a blank column header and clicking Note

Left mouse click the symbol for the Monitor Maintenance Dialog Box

Click Notes

A pop-up Notes box will appear. Type your text

An * will appear in the Notes Column to indicate an attachment.

Sizing the Monitor Column Width
Place your mouse above the column header you wish to size

You will see an arrow pointing left and right.

Left mouse click, hold and drag the column to the desired width.

Monitor symbols color coding
The symbol color is not customizable. The color of the symbol is based on if the data is real-time or delayed. If you are receiving real-time quotes the symbol will be Blue, if you are receiving delayed quotes the symbol will be Black.

Customizing the Monitor Display
*The Settings function on the Main Program window allows you to customize the main program window. You can Set Colors / Fonts, Clear Monitor symbols, Alphabetize the symbols in your monitor, Create Library Columns in your monitor, Set the Ticker Volume Filter, Select the Color Change on quotes, Filter News Vendors, Set the Number of Headlines, set the PC to Beep on Alert, select to use only decimal, and Edit Alerts.

To Change Monitor or News Colors
*Click Settings

*Click Colors / Fonts

*A pop-up Colors dialog box will appear.

*Click on the Foreground and Background buttons for each category – Click ok

*Click Done when complete

* Please note for a more aesthetically pleasing display all the Background colors should be set to the same value.

To change a data fill or column’s data in the Monitor
*Right mouse Click the gray column header

*Left mouse Click on the data fill of your choice

To Add an additional symbol per line in the Monitor
*Right mouse Click the on the right most gray column header

*Left mouse Click on insert new security strip

To Clear a Monitor
*Focus the Monitor Page for which you wish to delete all entries

*Click Settings

*Click Clear Monitor

*Click Yes to confirm deletion

To Alphabetize your Monitor Grid
*From the Program Header window click Settings then click Alphabetize Monitor. Your stock tickers will now be in an ascending alphabetized order. (a-z). Please note: Once you click this command, it cannot be undone. The monitor grid will not automatically alphabetize when you add more tickers, you will need to click Settings then click Alphabetize Monitor after the new addition.

To copy the layout of a monitor page
*Double left click on a non-symbol column of the page you wish to copy the layout of

*Then double left click on any heading of the monitor page you wish to paste to

*Please note- each security strip needs to be done individually.

Custom Monitor Library Columns
Using Library Columns

*Real Time Markets allows the user to create unique library columns using data from other columns.

To Create a Library Column
*From your Monitor Grid on the Main Program Window

1- Select Settings then select Library Columns

2- A grid will pop up with the headings; Header, Description, Formula.

*The Header is the word or words that will appear at the top of the column in the monitor

*The Description will appear in the column menu that displays when you right click on a column heading.

*The Formula determines the data that will appear in the cell.

*Currently valid operators are: + - * / ( )

*Valid variables are:

* If you type sec. (note the dot!) in the formula field, a drop-down menu will appear from which you can select a variable.

4- Click on the first cell under Header, the cell will turn white and a cursor will appear. Type a word which will identify your column. Keep it short in order to keep the column width as narrow as possible.

5- Click on the cell under Description and enter a phrase that describes your column.

6- Click on the cell under Formula and enter the formula, e.g. (last*volume)/100.

7- Click "Done" when finished.

8- Your new column(s) will now appear at the end of the column menu under the heading "Library Columns". Select one of these as you would any other monitor column.

Note: You may have to adjust the column width to fit your data and heading.

Using Alerts
*Real Time Markets allows the user to set Alerts based on the tickers Volume, Last, Bid, Ask and News stories. When your Alert is met you will receive a pop-up test box (color coded to see if it is a price or news alert) on your Real Time Markets screen. You can also receive an audio alert or an email alert.

Please note: Many Alphanumeric Pagers and Cellular phones can receive alerts.

To Set Alerts

*A check means this is enabled.

*Please note that Real Time Markets will utilize the standard Windows "Ping" as the audio unless a designated .wav file is stored in C:\Program Files\Real Time Markets

*For a sound for a high price alert, please name the file: high.wav

*For a low price alert: low.wav

*For a total volume alert: volume.wav

*For news alert: news.wav

*Finding .wav files on your pc is easy. You will be surprised how many choices you have to select from.

*To Find wav files click Start then Programs then Windows Explorer

*Click Tools then Find then Files

*Type *.wav

*Then press enter

*This will give you the locations of the files you can use. Go to those files and copy them to the path above (don’t forget to rename the files).

About Tick Indicators
*Real Time Markets provides color coded tick indicators. This allows the users to easily distinguish if the last trade was an up or down tick. The Last Price will be GREEN if it is an up tick or RED if it is a down tick.

*A Tick is the upward or downward price movement in a security’s trades. This indicator allows the user to get a feel for the stock’s trend.

News
Using News
*The News function window displays news headlines from all news vendors to which a user subscribes. Today’s headlines can be recalled from news stories that have occurred during the day by sending it to Today’s News. You can also look at Yesterday’s News or Historical News (going back 90 days or more).

Accessing headlines by symbol
*You can access headlines by symbol by Right Mouse Click on the desired symbol cell. Scroll down and left click Today’s News and a Headline Box will appear. Double click the headline of your choice and a story window will appear.



*Please note: To access news on a specific symbol, you must use the right mouse menu from the program window or additional display.

*The News window function header has two commands available, File and Settings.

*File- allows you to Exit the window

*Settings:

A. allows you to change the Color / Fonts of the News Window

B. allows you to Filter out News Vendors

*The window displays news based on the function selected. Available functions include:

  • Today’s News- retrieves news by Symbol for present day
  • Yesterday’s News- retrieves news by Symbol for previous day
  • Historical News- retrieves news by Symbol for 90 day historical based on plan level
  • Today’s News Roundup retrieves news for all Symbols displayed in your monitor for present day
  • Yesterday’s News Roundup retrieves news for all Symbols displayed in your monitor for previous day.
  • Today’s News by Vendor retrieves news by News Vendor for present day
  • Yesterday’s News by Vendor retrieves news by News Vendor for previous day
  • To Select a Function
    Click on the Down Arrow in the left most Pull Down box

    *If you select a function which retrieves news based on symbol, a symbol entry box will appear to the right of the function box.

    *For a Scrolling News, the headlines are automatically generated based on the news coming in from the news feeds on the first 5 lines of the Program Window. Simply double click the headline and a pop-up story window will appear.

    *Right mouse click on the desired symbol cell. Point and click the Option Display function by clicking on it. An option chain will appear.

    To Change Symbols
    *Highlight Symbol Box in the upper left-hand corner of the function window, add new symbol and press enter.
    Extended Market Quotes
    *In addition to pricing information on options, the Option display function provides the following information displayed in the top row of the Option Chain:
  • symbol
  • current price
  • change
  • next dividend amount and date if applicable
  • the annual high and low of the symbol
  • the most recent earnings per share
  • the underlying instrument’s volatility
  • The Body of the Window provides the Option Chain
    *All the contracts (with expiration and strike) will display as they trade.

    Accessing a Quote

    *The Quote Line appears at the base of the Stock Monitor function window. Simply type a symbol and hit your Enter key. Once a symbol is requested, the Quote line will dynamically update the requested symbol.

    *Enter a space before the symbol and the symbol will appear in lower case. Last, Bid, Ask, and Size will reflect the "best" market. Volume will show composite volume. Will work for options too.

    Changing the layout

    *Right Mouse click on a header cell brings up a drop down menu for over 50 data fields available for view. To change a value, simply point and click. Available Data Fills:

    Using The Scrolling Ticker

    *Scrolling Ticker delivers a running tape of trade prices for securities listed in your Stock Monitor pages for trades with volume equal to or greater than 1,000 shares. Automatic color-coding signifies the tick indicator for the symbol.

    To Access Volume Filter for your Scrolling Ticker

    *From the main Real Time Markets window click Settings then click Volume Ticker. You will get a pop-up Volume Ticker dialog box. This is where you can either eliminate or raise the volume of blocks needed for a symbol to display in the Scrolling Ticker. On the left hand side of the display are the symbols from your monitors.

    To raise the Volume of Block Trades Displayed in Scrolling Ticker

    Click the symbol you wish to edit.

    Under the symbol is the Number of share trades to be shown, change to a multiple of 1000

    Using Transaction Log

    *Also known as Time & Sales, this function tracks all quotes and trades for the present day sales, sizes and exchanges for the variety of market instruments.
    Accessing Transaction Log

    *Right mouse click on the desired symbol, choose the Transaction’s Log function by clicking on it. A log file will appear displaying all transactions from current time accessed and in arrears. To retrieve more transactions, click More Log.

    *To specify block trades in transaction log.
    From the main Real Time Markets monitor re-enter desired symbol, one space and the amount of shares. Ex. IBM 2500 this will display block trades from 2500 and up.
    *To specify time in transaction log.
    From the main Real Time Markets monitor re- enter the symbol, one space

    *And the time you would like to look at. Ex. IBM 10:00 this will display time from 11:00 and back.

    Note: All quotes will be delayed 15-20 minutes unless you are paying real-time exchange and access fees.

    Understanding the Log

    Today’s Log Codes After the Pricing
    U. S. Stocks:

    *The following is a description of the Stock Last Sale Special Trade Condition Indicators as they are received on the CTS ticker feed:

    @ Regular Sale. (Also, if no symbol is sent, no special conditions apply)

    A Acquisition. The trade was part of an Exchange acquisition.

    B NASAQ: Bunch Trade. This trade report reflects multiple trades by a single trader within a short (typically 60 second) period.

    Non-NASDAQ: Stock was traded in association with another instrument.

    C Cash Sale. This trade was a special, cash based transaction. Delivery and payment for the transaction are due on the same day as the transaction.

    D Distribution. The trade was part of a large distribution. Typically a large block, the indicator is used so that traders know that this was not a large buyer/seller doing a trade. Thus this is block is not apt to affect the market price.

    F Burst Basket Execution. A burst basket execution signifies a trade wherein the equity

    specialist, acting in the aggregate as a market maker, purchase or sell the component stocks required for execution of a specific basket.

    G NASDAQ: Group Trade. This report is the same as a "B" Bunch trade EXCEPT that it is being reported out of sequence.

    Non-NASDAQ: (Not reported by TDC due to overwhelming customer requests.)

    FYI Opening/Reopening trade detail. This indicates that the trade is just for informational purposes.

    H Interday Trade Detail. Same as G EXCEPT other than opening trade.

    I Basket Index on Close Transaction. This signifies a trade involving paired orders, the execution of which is based on the closing value of the index. These trades will be reported after the close when the index closing value is determined.

    J NYSE Rule 127. The trade was outside the current quotes and was

    a) over 10,000 shares, and/or b) was over $200,000

    K AMEX Rule 155. This trade occurred under the regulations specified by AMEX rule 155 for special trades (large dollar values and/or out of market. Aka a "Cleanup Trade".

    L Sold Last. This is a late report of a regular trade although the trade did occur in sequence.

    N Next Day. This trade specifies delivery between one and four days after the transaction date.

    P Prior reference price - an executed trade relating to an obligation to trade at earlier point in trading day. Usually the result of a lost or misplaced Selectnet order not executed in timely manner.

    O Opened. This is a late report of the opening trade.

    R Seller. This trade specifies delivery conditions for a future date (beyond next day).

    S Split Trade. This trade was part of a larger trade which was split across multiple exchanges. It should be treated as a regular sale. However, it is unclear if this rule applies any longer.

    T NASDAQ: Form ‘T’ trade. This is a trade which occurred after the NASD system close. These trades are reported on a ‘Form-T’ and are electronically as a group some time after the close.

    Non-NASDAQ: Custom Basket Cross. This Signifies a trade of (a) two paired split (where the customer requires only a portion of the standardized basket) orders in which the market maker or member organization facilitates both sides of the remaining portion of the baskets, or (b) a combination of a split basket and an entire basket where the market maker facilitates the remaining shares of the split basket only.

    Z Sold. This is a late, out of sequence, report of a regular sale.

    Quote Conditions (U.S.  stocks)

    Codes:

    A Depth On The Offer Side. This condition is used when there is more size behind the quote being offered. This depth may be at the offer price or at a price slightly outside the offer price. (Best Bid & Offer (BBO)QUALIFYING QUOTE CONDITION)

    B Depth On The Bid Side. This condition is similar to the quote condition "A" but indicating depth on the Bid Side. (Best Bid & Offer (BBO)QUALIFYING QUOTE CONDITION)

    C Closing. This condition can be disseminated to indicate that this quote was the last quote for a security for that Participant

    D News Dissemination. This regulatory Opening Delay or Trading Halt is used when relevant news influencing the security is being disseminated. Trading is suspended until the primary market determines that an adequate publication or disclosure of information has occurred.

    E Order Influx. This non-regulatory Opening Delay or Trading Halt is used when there is a significant influx of orders.

    F Fast Trading. This condition is used during extremely active periods of short duration. While in this mode, a Participant enters quotes on a "best effort" basis.

    G Trading Range Indication. The trading range indication is used to denote the probable trading range (bid and offer prices, no sizes) of a security that is NOT opening Delayed or Trading Halted. The Trading Range Indication is used prior to or after the opening of a security.

    H Depth On Bid Offer. This condition indicates that there is more size behind the reported quote for both the bid and offer. The depth may be at the price or slightly outside the price. (Best Bid & Offer (BBO)QUALIFYING QUOTE CONDITION)

    I Order Imbalance. This non-regulatory Opening Delay or Trading Halt is used when there is a significant imbalance of buy or sell orders.

    J Due to Related Security - News Dissemination. This regulatory Opening Delay or Trading Halt is used when news which may influence the price of a stock has been disseminated for a related security. Trading is suspended until the resultant impact is assessed.

    K Due to Related Security - News Pending. This quote condition indicates a regulatory Opening Delay or Trading Halt due to an expected news announcement in a related security. An Opening Delay or Trading Halt may be continued once the news has been disseminated.

    L Closed Market Maker (NASDAQ). This condition is disseminated by each individual NASDAQ Market Maker to signify either the last quote of the day or the premature close of an individual Market Maker for the day. In the latter case, the Market Maker can re-open by transmitting a quote accompanied by the Quote Condition R.

    M Additional Information. This regulatory Opening Delay or Trading Halt is used if more disclosure of information for the security is requested by the Exchange. If inadequate information is disclosed during a "news dissemination or news pending" Opening Delay or Trading Halt, the Opening Delay or Trading Halt reason could be subsequently reported as "Additional Information".

    N Non-Firm Quote. This quote condition suspends a Participant's firm quote obligation for a quote for a security.

    O Opening Quote. This condition can be disseminated to indicate that this quote was the opening quote for a security. (Best Bid & Offer (BBO)QUALIFYING QUOTE CONDITION)

    P News Pending. This condition is used to indicate a regulatory Opening Delay or Trading Halt due to an expected news announcement which may influence the security. An Opening Delay or Trading Halt may be continued once the news has been disseminated.

    Q Additional Information - Due to related security. This regulatory Opening Delay or Trading Halt quote condition is used if more disclosure of information is requested by the exchange for a related security.

    R Regular (Nasdaq Market Maker Open.) This Condition is used for the majority of quotes to indicate a normal trading environment.It is used to indicate the first quote of the day and also re-opens of a security during the day after a halt. (Best Bid & Offer (BBO)QUALIFYING QUOTE CONDITION)

    S Due to related Security. This non-regulatory Opening Delay or Trading Halt is used when events relating to one security will affect the price and performance of another related security (e.g., a call for redemption of a convertible preferred security or convertible debt security which could affect the related common security). This non-regulatory halt reasons such as Order Imbalance, Order Influx and Equipment Changeover are combined with Due to Related Security on CTS.

    T Resume. This quote condition along with zero-filled bid, offer and size fields is used to indicate that trading for a Participant is no longer suspended in a security which had been Opening Delayed or Trading Halted.

    V In View of Common. This quote condition is used when matters affecting the common stock of a company affect the performance of the non-common associated securities, e.g., warrants, rights, preferred, classes, etc. Those securities which must be of the same company are globally Opening Delayed, Trading Halted, or No Open/No Resume for a Participant in view of the common stock.

    X Equipment Changeover. This non-regulatory Opening Delay or Trading Halt is used when the ability to trade a security by a Participant is temporarily inhibited due to a systems, equipment or communications facility problem or for other technical reasons.

    Z No Open/No Resume. This quote condition is used to indicate that an Opening Delay or a Trading Halt is to be in effect for the rest of the trading day in a security for a Participant.

    Color Coding Rows
    *Real Time Markets color codes the 1st (green) and 2nd best (blue) bids and asks so that you may evaluate this display quickly and easily. You can also select color all levels.

    Color Coding in the Transaction Log

    *Red symbolizes the transaction went off at the Bid

    *Green the Ask

    *White is neither the Bid nor Ask it is constant

    *Blue for trades above Ask

    *Yellow for trades below the Bid

    Color Coding for NASDAQ Level II MM
    *When a Market Maker switches levels the color of the MM will change to either Green (if increasing the level of their support) or Red (if lowering the level of their support)

    Customizing your NASDAQ Level II Display

    *You may now change the Level Indicator Colors as well as Edit Column Data Fills.

    To Change Colors / Fonts on NASDAQ Level II

    *Click Settings

    *Click Color

    *A pop-up Colors dialog box will appear.

    *Click on the Foreground and Background buttons for each category

    *Click ok and then done when complete

    To color all levels

    *Click settings

    *Select – color all levels

    To View / Hide a Vertical Transaction Log on the NASDAQ Level II display

    *Click View

    *Click Show Log (or Hide)

    *A pop-up Color coded (upticks are green , downticks are red, White is constant) box will appear

    Optimize CPU

    *Located under settings at the top of the Level II window.

    *This setting when checked will cause window to update once per second. (this is how it currently behaves.) When not checked the window will update more rapidly, but will use much more CPU time.

    Understanding the Market Maker activity display

    *This display is located to the right of the transaction log, it shows market maker activity and Increase / Decrease of pricing (bid / ask) and size. It will also display when a market maker is no longer offering and when a market maker joins the market.

    To view Market Maker activity

    *Click View then Show mm ticker

    *Use the scroll bar to scroll over, if needed

    *Green represents positive Market Maker activity

    *Increase Bid Size

    *Decrease Ask Size

    *Raised bid

    *Raised ask

    *Red represents negative Market Maker activity

    *Increase Ask Size

    *Decrease Bid Size

    *Lowered Ask

    *Lowered Bib

    Order Entry ECNs and Full participation ECNs are distinguished as follows:

    *Full participants (in SuperSoes) have the + after the ECN tag.

    *Order Entry only (using SelectNet) will have the # as the fifth character

    *To view a > before the Market Maker code in order to more easily monitor a specific Market Maker

    *Right Mouse Click on the Market Maker code

    *A > will appear in the MM box

    One Click Trading in Nasdaq Level II

    *Nasdaq Level II users can execute trades directly from their Nasdaq Level II window.

    *The trades are all day limit orders. The quantity is the default quantity you set in the myTrade configuration.

    To Trade

    *There are four types of trades you can execute from Nasdaq Level II using this feature by clicking your LEFT mouse key on the following columns:

    Click on Action
    Ask Market Maker Buy at ask from that market maker
    Bid Market Maker Sell at bid to that market maker
    Bid side Bid Buy at Bid from any market maker
    Ask side Ask Sell at ask to any market maker


    Before using this feature make sure to select the trading account you wish to trade from in the myTrade window. The myTrade window will open up each time a trade is attempted.

    To enable
    *In the myTrade window

    *Click Settings

    *Then Click Configuration.

    *In the "One click execution box" check the box that says

    "Enable One Click Execution".

    To trade without a confirmation using One Click
