Connection - Can't connect - 7 most common causes
This error can have 7 different causes:
- If we were down. We have a systems team constantly monitoring
the systems to ensure we are up and running.
- If you have the wrong id information. Please make sure your
Host id is: host.realtimemarkets.net and your Port id is: 9983
- You are using a 16-bit internet connection software. 16-bit
means that it was written for Windows 3.1. Windows 95 and higher
use 32 bit technology. Please check with your internet connection
software to make sure it is 32-bit.
- You are behind a firewall for your Internet connection via
a network (Lan)
- You are using AOL and need to close some windows.
- Your computer may not meet our minimum requirements for
proper performance. Do you have a Pentium 200mhz with 32mb RAM, 20mb available hard drive space, and
Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/XP installed?
- If there is a problem with your ISP. Have you ever tested
your connection? I will attach some directions below.
If you are using a network Internet connection:
In order for Real Time Markets to function through a proxy server you
must enter the IP address of you proxy server and the port on
which it uses (usually port number 80). If you are using either
a Netscape or Microsoft browser you can find the IP address and
port number as follows:
Netscape (4.0 or later):
- Select Edit then Preferences from the menu bar.
- In the "category" box of the Preferences window select
Advanced then Proxies.
- Click the "View" button next to the words "manual
proxy configuration.
- A chart will appear. Next to "HTTP:" you will see
the address of the proxy to use and the port number.
Internet Explorer:
- Select View then Internet Options from the menu bar.
- Click on the Connection tab of the Internet Options window.
- In the Proxy Server box click on the Advanced button.
- A chart will appear. Next to "HTTP:" you will see
the address of the proxy to use and the port number.
If you still cannot find the address or are not using a browser,
please contact your network administrator or webmaster.
If you are an AOL user:
1) Make sure that you are using AOL 3.0 or higher for Win95.
You can check this by going to the HELP menu then clicking
on ABOUT. If it says AOL 3.0 for Win95, then it is the 32-bit
version, if it says AOL 3.0 for Windows, then it is the 16-bit
version & Real Time Markets will not run correctly. You must upgrade
to the 32-bit version.
2) When you sign onto AOL, close all windows except the initial
login window.
Minimize this window & re-start Real Time Markets. We have found the
more AOL resources you use, the more likely you will have a problem
with Real Time Markets on AOL. DO NOT OPEN ANY INTERNET BROWSER WINDOWS.
UPON SIGNING ONTO AOL, CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS EXCEPT FOR THE
INITIAL WELCOME SCREEN,
AND THEN MINIMIZE AOL TO THREW WIN95 TASK BAR. AT THIS POINT
START REAL TIME MARKETS. |
